Travelin' West Volume Problem

Problem StatementDuring the U.S. westward expansion in the mid-1800s, Americans needed to bring items with them as they traveled across country. Available transportation systems limit what can be shipped.

Design StatementDesign a model of a crate to carry items necessary to live on the Great Plains.




Constraints
  • Model Scale (1cm = 1ft)
  • Model may only be constructed of tape and index cards cut into regular geometrical shapes.
  • Model must have a volume of exactly 240cm3
  • Model must fit into a prairie schooner (14cm3 by 4cm3 by 11cm3) 
  • Final models will be submitted with group member names and all dimensions clearly written on cards securely taped together at 10:35.
